Hard Topic for an Essay

Last week for english class I had to write an essay on a person, place or thing that has changed me in a significant way. I don't know why they had to assign an essay on such a hard topic. I mean it could have been on some other kind of topic. I sat there for a few minutes having trouble thinking about somebody or something that has changed me in a significant way, and when I finally came up with something it wasn't all that good of an example, so when I got my essay back yesterday from the teacher it turned out there were all these things wrong with it. If I had been assigned an essay on a topic about a certain book or an idea then I don't think I would have had much of a problem thinking of something good to write. But since this was supposed to be a topic about something personal it was hard. I mean I couldn't really think of anything in my own life that has changed me in a significant way, and I didn't know how significant the change had to be. I just think it would have been so much easier to write an essay about something else that isn't so personal.
